Who would have thought that one day you could use wood screws to improve your computer? An unconscious Internet user tried the experiment, leaving a computer expert perplexed in the process.

Many users prefer to assemble their PC themselves rather than purchasing a pre-assembled model. Generally, these players know what they are doing and manage to perform these operations without problem. However, Sometimes improvisations lead to disastrous consequences. Recently, a Reddit user shared an astonishing story where the assembly of his Gaming PC had a positive outcome, despite considerable curiosity: he had used wood screws.

As the author of the publication indicates, one of his friends working in a computer repair shop discovered a rather original situation. According to him, a user came to him claiming that his PC was no longer working as well as before following the CPU change. It was while examining the inside of the computer that he realized that this person had used wood screws to secure the processor standoffs to the motherboard.

Obviously, this could have led to serious consequences, since there was a risk of damaging the motherboard and other components of the computer. It's even a miracle that the components were not damaged.

An original idea that could have been very expensive

The decision of this little handyman – with very eccentric ideas – to use wood screws to update his PC left the technician perplexed. It later turned out that the information specified in the installation guide for the CPU in question had not specified the type of screw that should specifically be used, which led this user to take some liberties without realizing the risk involved…

Fortunately, the consequences of this original improvisation were limited. The computer components withstood this strange installation and seemed to work fine. Alone a slight BIOS adjustment was necessary to ensure compatibility with the new processor.

Finally, this anecdote, as unusual as it may be, illustrates the importance of writing clear and precise instructions, even for the most technical operations. Because, as the saying goes, Prevention is better than cure, especially when it comes to computer hardware.
