Samsung has officially confirmed the launch of its first mixed reality (XR) device in 2025. During its third quarter results presentation, the South Korean giant gave a glimpse of its future ambitions in the mixed reality space.
Despite a lackluster consumer demand outlook for the rest of the year and weak demand for Apple’s Vision Pro, Samsung stays the course on its plan to launch a mixed reality headset. Analyst Bryan Ma of IDC spotted a mention of Samsung’s upcoming headset in the investor presentation: the company aims to “improve connectivity between its devices, including XR devices, to elevate user experience in the Galaxy ecosystem ».
On the program, a strategic partnership between Samsung and Google and Qualcomm. The device will use an optimized version of Android for XR devices and the latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor. Rumors suggest premium specs, including Micro OLED displays with a high refresh rate and a sophisticated multi-camera system.
What design for Samsung’s mixed reality headset?
An unknown element remains: the exact shape of the device. Some sources mention XR glasses rather than a traditional helmetleaving room for much speculation. The precise details will likely only be revealed within the next year.
This announcement is part of a broader context of development of extended reality. Google recently integrated an “XR headsets” category in the Play Storesignaling an imminent evolution in augmented and virtual reality experiences.
Beyond the audience.
It now remains to be seen what form Samsung’s next XR product will take, and we will surely have to wait a few more months before having additional information.
