According to @体验more on Weibo, Redmi’s next flagship phone will feature a 3x telephoto camera. Looking back, the Redmi K70 Pro is equipped with a 50 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. While the jump from 2x to 3x doesn’t seem like a big deal, it’s a good upgrade for the camera.
On the front, the Redmi K80 Pro is said to feature an ultrasonic sensor instead of an optical sensor. This matches what Digital Chat Station, a popular Weibo tipster, reported in April. For those who missed it, the report stated that Chinese manufacturers were testing this fingerprint technology.
It is worth noting that the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor has been present in the smartphone market for some time now, with the first models featuring this technology being the Galaxy S10 which were the first to use this technology. Some Chinese phones recently released on Android also have it integrated, including the iQOO 12 Pro and the Meizu 21 series.
Compared to optical sensors, ultrasonic fingerprints provide better accuracy and faster unlocking. But these benefits come with an increase in price, which is why we don’t usually see it in affordable flagships. Speaking of which, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices are already announced to be more expensive than the current flagship, and if the latest report is confirmed, we may not see the Redmi K80 Pro match the price of its predecessor.
