Built around Tizen 8.0, the One UI interface redesigns the operating system of the brand’s televisions in order to improve the user experience. It is inspired by the visual codes and functionalities that have made this interface successful on smartphones and tablets.

Fresh look on

The update includes several new features in terms of navigation and customization. Among the major improvements, we find the addition of several tabs on the home screen: “For you”, “Live” and “Applications”. These sections allow users to quickly find their favorite content and applications thanks to personalized recommendations, taking into account the habits and preferences of viewers.

The new “Samsung Daily+” hub, integrated into the home screen, centralizes all kinds of useful features for daily life, such as lifestyle information and fitness services. A “Watch Later” mode appears, it offers the possibility of saving content to view it later. This attention to customization and ease of use reflects Samsung’s desire to transform the television into a true multimedia center.

The design of the interface has also been redesigned to better fit with the times. We find typical elements of One UI, such as the four-point rotating animation, now integrated into televisions. The icons of applications like Bixby (the assistant is still there, alive!), Gallery, Samsung Internet and SmartThings are visually closer to those of mobile devices to facilitate the transition for users accustomed to the Samsung ecosystem.

The settings accessible via the gear icon on the remote control have also been changed. Now, three main shortcuts are highlighted: the numeric keypad, general settings and the SmartThings application. This simplification improves accessibility, with the most frequently used options placed at the top of the menu for quick access.

The settings bar, which appears at the bottom of the screen, now sports rounded edges and modernized icons. In addition, pop-up menus for settings like Bluetooth, Q-Symphony and Sound Output also benefit from a visual refresh. The new toggle buttons, which replace the traditional radio buttons, improve the consistency of the interface.

With this update, Samsung is pushing the integration of its devices. Thanks to the “Multi Control” function, it is now possible to control several Samsung devices (signed on the same account) from a single keyboard and mouse. This feature is in addition to the “Workout Tracker”, which allows, via the Galaxy Watch, to monitor training data in real time on the TV screen, such as calories burned and heart rate.

The improvements also extend to home automation, with the integration of IoT cameras via the SmartThings application, accessible directly on the television. The “Multi View” function now allows you to enlarge the image of a connected screen in mirroring and control the content via a keyboard and mouse.

For more gamers, the Game Bar has been revisited with a modernized interface. Finally, the television can also become a support for video calls or screen sharing with the “ConnecTime” function, which makes it possible to broadcast calls or messages directly to the television.
