Android is getting a handful of features over the next month, including one that users have been waiting for for some time.

An update will allow users on Android 8 and later to edit messages sent through Google’s Messages app. Like other services with the same functionality (like iMessage), users can long-press an RCS message to edit it up to 15 minutes after it’s sent. This feature is available today.

Other upcoming updates include a widget that lets users control often-used smart home appliances and devices either on their Android smartphone (like the Google Pixel 8, currently $699 at Amazon) or on a smartwatch running Wear OS 3 or newer.

Increased support for digital car keys is also planned, with support for vehicles from Mini, Mercedez-Benz and Polestar. These keys require Android 12 or later. Improvements have also been made to Instant Hotspot, which will allow users to connect a compatible device with a single tap and switch between hotspot devices. This feature requires Android 11 or later and will be available on June 10.

Android version 15 is scheduled for release in fall 2024, although individual feature updates are often released in dribs and drabs throughout the calendar year. Since editing sent messages has been a feature available on many other messaging platforms for years, RCS message editing will definitely be highly appreciated by Google Messages users.
