OPPO’s new smartphones, Reno12 and Reno12 F, recently launched on the Tunisian market, are designed with a futuristic fluid design but are characterized in particular by their unrivaled robustness.

These two models represent a new chapter in the history of the popular Reno series and the first major release as part of OPPO’s commitment to accelerate the adoption and mainstreaming of AI phones. This is the most rugged design in the Reno series phone, with improved protection against drops, pressure and water.

Success story of exceptional durability.

OPPO strives to make smartphones more powerful, continually pushing the boundaries in many aspects of the user experience. Reno 12 has now become the personal device closest to users, capable of meeting their various complex needs, sometimes even exceeding their expectations. With this comes a new reliability challenge, as users expect a phone to be with them for more years. A smartphone is not just about the initial excitement when unboxing, it must also withstand accidents and various environmental tests during long-term use.

Reliability may not seem like an interesting topic to many, and one of the main reasons is that it is “invisible”. It is hidden behind numerous technical innovations and countless product details that go unnoticed. However, OPPO has always paid special attention to these invisible details, because, in the eyes of its product team, they are precisely at the heart of the user experience. In the long run, they will ultimately define the difference.

OPPO’s “all-round” versatile armor

When OPPO’s R&D teams set out to create the Reno12, they set an ambitious goal: to preserve the excellent touch feeling while ensuring unparalleled reliability. Of course, from a product development perspective, this is not an easy task. There seems to be a natural contradiction between Reno’s emphasis on slim design and increased reliability. After months of relentless efforts, OPPO is proud to present its solution on Reno12: the “all-round” versatile armor. The latter is the result of the collaborative efforts of several teams in materials science, chemistry and engineering. OPPO’s “all-round” multi-purpose armor represents a major breakthrough. Every aspect of the Reno12, both inside and out, has been significantly improved. It therefore represents the ultimate solution in smartphone reliability, with three major advances: durable glass, robust frame structure and advanced cushioning design.

Superior strength glass

On the Reno12, OPPO used a curved design that provides a pleasant hand feeling, seamlessly combining the screen and body for a premium immersive experience. However, such a striking design could raise concerns about durability. Users often perceive beauty as fragile. OPPO believes that stunning tactile and visual effects should not compromise reliability. That’s why it worked with Corning to equip the Reno12 with incredibly tough Corning® Gorilla® Glass “7i”, one of the strongest choices in its class.

During rigorous testing, the Reno12 showed exceptional performance, surpassing durability expectations. Even under the harsh conditions of repeated scratching with steel wool applying 1000g of force, the screen remained flawless, far exceeding the requirements of daily use and ensuring peace of mind.

Additionally, the Reno12’s durability shined during drop tests, withstanding over ten thousand drops without breaking. The Reno12’s impressive results surpass even some of the industry’s most rugged flagship phones, setting a new standard for reliability.

The thin design of the Reno series has been appreciated by users around the world, while the Reno12 continues this trend with a thickness of only 7.57 millimeters and a weight of only 177 grams. However, for the engineering team, this is far from enough. They aimed for something extraordinary: with the body structure of the Reno12, extreme thinness and extreme strength must be achieved at the same time.

Behind this seemingly impossible achievement is the aerospace standard high-strength alloy frame developed by OPPO. The alloy frame determines the strength of the phone, which is especially important for thin-body products. OPPO explored and researched better materials to ensure that the Reno does not bend under pressure.

Inside the alloy structure of the Reno12 is a new achievement in OPPO’s materials science, internally called AM04.

The development of AM04 took over a year. OPPO used the most advanced AI algorithms to develop the optimal formula and further optimized the proportions of metal elements such as copper (Cu), magnesium (Mg) and silicon (Si) in AM04, significantly improving the strength of the alloy.

At the same time, OPPO used nearly a hundred tons of environmentally friendly materials for experiments and tests. Of course, the materials used were recycled and reused after the process. The laboratory test results of the AM04 are impressive. Its yield strength exceeds 280 MPa and its tensile strength exceeds 360 MPa. Its excellent characteristics of high strength, high toughness, thermal conductivity and anti-corrosion properties enable it to meet aerospace quality standards.

Additionally, Reno12 also excelled in the soft deformation test. Compared to the previous generation material, its compressive and flexural strength has increased by more than 10%.

An all-new biomimetic cushioning design

The third major issue addressed by the OPPO “All-Round Armor” is the cushioning design. Over years of use, smartphones will likely experience various impacts or drops, where each incident may be unique. OPPO has found that traditional damping design solutions often struggle to maintain excellent performance and protect internal parts over time.

On Reno12, OPPO has taken a completely new approach. Taking inspiration from bionics, the phone’s body simulates the internal structure of a sponge, improving both durability and structural reliability. OPPO has customized the cushioning materials for all key components of the Reno12. For example, in the display packaging area, the technical teams used tailor-made technology. It ensures effective attenuation from any angle of impact. In the camera module area, the Reno12’s cushioning materials have dedicated buffer zones to ensure sufficient shock absorption in natural and maximum deformation states. Additionally, they used a strength gradient structure to further improve flexural strength.

This innovative damping design of the Reno12 significantly improves resilience, making it impervious to sudden crashes. OPPO tested the Reno12’s drop resistance on various surfaces, including smooth pavement, rough granite, bricks, and sidewalk slabs. From a height of one meter to 1.9 meters, the Reno12 generally withstood testing without notable functional anomalies, demonstrating its robustness against typical daily drops.

A remarkable standard

Of course, beyond the comprehensive reinforcement provided by OPPO’s versatile armor from the inside out, the Reno12’s robust performance extends beyond these aspects alone.

On the Reno12, OPPO has achieved IP65 dust and water resistance certification. At the same time, the brand implemented reinforced designs for key components. Even after an hour of rain, the Reno12 continues to operate normally.

OPPO also subjected the smartphone to extreme testing in key usage scenarios. In pressure tests, the Reno12 can withstand the pressure of a car tire of 8000N, which is the equivalent of a 3.2 ton vehicle. Additionally, the Reno12 has undergone grueling laboratory testing. For example, it was repeatedly switched between salt spray and dry environments and left for over 96 hours. It also underwent continuous exposure for more than 96 hours at a temperature of 49°C with a radiation intensity of 1120 W/m². In addition, it underwent 240 hours of repeated thermal shock cycles between -15°C and 65°C at 95% humidity.

Reno12 has also obtained five performance test certifications from SGS, including anti-pressure, anti-drop, anti-aging, anti-splash and scratch resistance test certifications.
