The launch of new timepieces allows watch manufacturers to perpetuate their know-how and avoid falling into oblivion. While some prefer to unveil completely new and exclusive models, others rely on their archives and revisit their old collections. This is particularly the case of the French manufacturer Lip with the new Minilips that it unveiled on October 16.
Lip offers a makeover to his Minilip
The Lip house is back in force this year. Last September, she enriched her Himalaya collection with a new piece embodying elegance in its purest form. For this month of October, the manufacture reconnects with its past by turning to its old Miniliplaunched 55 years ago.
This watch was “designed for learning the time. Niche market, since it concerns children aged between approximately 6 and 8 years old,” we can read on the Lip website. At the time, the watch aroused great enthusiasm, and it must be said that the house knew how to promote its model. She even launched an advertisement with a slogan that was both ingenious and full of mischief: “She’s big (7mm) she’s wide (31mm). It is heavy, it has three dials. This is not a watch for little people,” she wrote.
In 2024, the watch is making a comeback, “evolving from its role as an educational watch for children in the 1960s to a symbol of retro style”.
Two new references for the nostalgic
This new generation of Minilip is available in two timepieces (each available in two different colors) for the greatest pleasure of those who have kept a child at heart. They will happily find the iconic dial made up of three circles. The first, gold, has red numbers. It surrounds the central white circle, decorated with black numbers and two hands, one red and the other gold. Finally, the third circle, black, displays white numbers for optimal reading.
A red Minilip
As mentioned above, the new generation of Minilip is available in two colors, including reference 671970 in red. It is equipped with a 29mm polished gold-tone 316L stainless steel case, mounted on a black and red nylon strap. Under the hood, the room contains the Miyota caliber 2025a quartz movement. In terms of price, the red Minilip comes in at 199 euros, a price that is widely accessible for small budgets.
A second blue Minilip
The Minilip Ref. 671971 is available in blue and is priced slightly lower than the first, 189 euros. She equips herself with a 29mm case in silver-colored 316L stainless steel, mounted on a black and blue nylon strap. The watch has a subtle difference in the dial. Indeed, the second circle, gold with red numbers, is gray here for ref. 671971, while keeping the same color for the numbers. The third and largest black circle remains identical, but matches perfectly with this blue version.
The point that changes everything? The fact that these watches are 100% French, made in Besançon precisely.
