(Tokyo) The Japanese Nintendo announced Tuesday the 100% acquisition of Shiver Entertainment, a small American video game developer based in Miami (southeast United States), for an undisclosed amount.

Founded in 2012, Shiver is involved in the development or porting (adaptation) of games for different consoles, including the Nintendo Switch (Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat 1), and also produces PC versions.

“By welcoming the experienced Shiver team, Nintendo aims to ensure high-level know-how for the porting and development of titles,” explains the Japanese group in a brief press release.

Even after its integration as a Nintendo subsidiary, Shiver’s business model “will remain the same” by developing or adapting video games for multiple media, the group adds.

Shiver until now belonged to the Swedish video games and media giant Embracer, financially weakened by serial acquisitions in recent years, and which recently decided to split into three separate companies in 2025.

Nintendo’s acquisitions are rare and very targeted, while other console giants Sony (PlayStation) and especially Microsoft (Xbox) have spent billions of dollars in recent years to buy studios.

Nintendo said in early May that it planned to make an announcement by the end of March on the highly anticipated successor to its Switch console, launched in 2017.
