The Chinese manufacturer Mobvoi announced this Tuesday its new connected watch running Wear OS, the Ticwatch Atlas. Unlike previous models, this is a watch dedicated to sports and outdoor activities.
While connected watches under Wear OS have until now been content to be lifestyle models, essentially offering connected uses and applications, they are increasingly moving towards sports use.
After Samsung which launched its Galaxy Watch Ultra during the summer, it is now the turn of the Chinese manufacturer Mobvoi to present its own connected watch geared towards outdoor sports with its Ticwatch Atlas.
A complete Wear OS watch
Presented this Tuesday, the Ticwatch Atlas is a connected watch which takes up the main characteristics of a classic Wear OS watch. We will thus find the Wear OS system in version 4, powered by a Snapdragon W5 + Gen 1 chip, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.
The watch also benefits from a 1.43 inch Oled screen displaying a definition of 466 x 466 pixels for a density of 326 pixels per inch, perfectly within market standards. It also offers an NFC chip which can be used for contactless payment via Google Pay, as well as a speaker.
Obviously, the classic health functions are present, with real-time analysis of heart rate, SpO2 measurement and even fall detection with alert system.
A watch designed for outdoor sport
However, the Ticwatch Atlas is more designed for outdoor sports such as trail running, mountain biking or climbing. As such, it benefits from multi-GNSS positioning (GPS, Galileo, Glonass Beidou, QZSS), even if Mobvoi does not communicate on dual frequency compatibility. The watch also features a sapphire crystal coating for the screen to better protect it from scratches.
Above all, its case is designed in stainless steel for better resistance against shocks, with a wide crown to better protect the screen. The Ticwatch Atlas also has a barometric altimeter to assess altitude and elevation during exercises. Features that allow it to position itself against Garmin outdoor watches such as the Fenix 8, the Fenix E, or the Instinct 2.
Finally, as Mobvoi obliges, the Ticwatch Atlas is equipped with the manufacturer’s dual screen system, with a monochrome liquid crystal display superimposed on the Amoled screen for better energy management in always-on display. Enough to ensure, according to the manufacturer, up to 45 days of autonomy in “essential” mode or 90 hours in “smart” mode.
Price and availability of the Ticwatch Atlas
The Ticwatch Atlas is already available. It is available in France in two colors, black or silver, at a price of 359.99 euros.
