During the night from Saturday to Sunday, two young people fled a police check in Bern, according to a press release from the cantonal police. In a stolen car, they drove at “excessive” speed and led the police on a wild chase before being arrested in Wabern.
The events took place on Sunday around 2 a.m. near the Bollwerk in Bern. A civil patrol from the Berne cantonal police noticed a “heavily damaged” car driving “at high speed” crossing the intersection towards the station.
The patrol decides to follow the vehicle and asks it to stop using light signals, but the driver does not comply and flees at high speed in the direction of Monbijou. The patrol then set off in pursuit of the vehicle, soon helped by other cars called for reinforcement.
Finally, the driver had to stop his race in Wabern, where two patrol cars blocked his way. The occupants of the vehicle then tried to flee on foot in different directions, but they were caught and arrested by the police.
The two young defendants, aged 14 and 16, were taken to a police station and provisionally arrested. The police investigation showed that the car in which the teenagers were traveling was a stolen vehicle and that it had been involved in a traffic accident in Bern that same night. Additionally, during the chase, the teens were guilty of several speeding violations and other traffic violations. Additional investigations are underway and the young people involved will have to answer for their actions in court at the end of the investigation.
