Lensys Professional: Focal offers the Azurys hi-fi headphones in a monitoring version

With great expertise in the field of monitoring speakers, Focal has been working for years to offer its hi-fi headphones in versions dedicated to professionals. However, we have to go back to 2021 to find the high-end Clear MG Professional open helmet, the French brand’s latest test on this market.

Lightweight and compact studio headphones for flexible use

Focal is now back with the Lensys Professional, a closed headset based on the basics of the recent Azurys. Very similar to this last audiophile iteration, the Lensys embodies the manufacturer’s new positioning. In addition to being less expensive, it has a more reasonable weight and a more compact design than the majority of its helmets. The earbuds also fold down for easy storage in the included carrying case. Thus, these new Focal headphones can be used in the studio as well as during daily travel.

According to the brand, the Lensys would offer excellent feelings of comfort thanks to thick memory foam pads and a fabric-covered headband. Robustness and build quality should also be there, as usual with Focal.

Lensys Professional: optimized response at the bottom of the spectrum

On paper, the 40mm transducers using an “M” dome made of an aluminum/magnesium alloy are identical to those of the Azurys. Focal would, however, have arranged them differently within an acoustic load optimized to improve the stereo image and the response in the extreme bass. The Lensys indeed displays an extended bandwidth up to 5 Hz, while its audiophile twin stops at the conventional 20 Hz. We can therefore expect more precise sound reproduction from these new monitoring headphones from Focal.

The Lensys has a sensitivity of 100 dB and an impedance of 26 Ohms. Easy to power, it will therefore work just as well with a mobile source as in association with more powerful equipment. In addition to a standard 1.2m cable, the headphones come with a 3m coiled cable and a 6.35mm jack adapter to adapt them to the requirements of recording studios.

The Focal Lensys headphones are available this October at a price of €699, in a simple black finish. A relatively low price positioning compared to the rest of the French brand’s catalog.
