Google recently enhanced its research and writing assistant, NotebookLM, by adding an innovative feature that allows you to transform texts or videos into realistic podcasts. This advancement is part of a growing trend of using artificial intelligence to make content more accessible and engaging.

By making it easier to create dialogues between two people, this feature opens up new possibilities for content creators, educators and professionals, making audio more engaging and interactive. In a blog post published on September 11, the company presented the key features of this tool.

As a reminder, NotebookLM allows you to import various sources, such as PDFs, Google Docs or YouTube videos, and to generate summaries from this content. Users can then interact with the assistant by asking questions or requesting the creation of briefing documents, summaries or even FAQs, making it easier to analyze and understand various information.

With the “Audio Overview” feature, users can now get in-depth discussions of approximately nine minutes, hosted by two AI-generated voices. This innovation opens new perspectives to make learning and analyzing information more interactive and engaging.

The voices are so realistic that they perfectly capture intonation, the fluidity of exchanges and even breathing. In the generated podcast, the hosts do not limit themselves to reading the proposed text; they explore it and debate together, thus facilitating the understanding of complex subjects. Currently, Google’s podcast generation feature is only available in English. However, it is possible to obtain impressive results using French sources. This highlights one of the limitations of the tool, which is still in the experimental phase, according to Google.
