It’s always the same old refrain. While Android 15, the new version of Google’s operating system, is still not deployed in final version even on the American Pixel models, there is already talk of its successor: Android 16. It is the exploration of the features hidden within betas of Android 15, and probably deployed during the release of the next version of the OS, which allows us to get a first idea.
Android Authority set out to dissect the latest betas of Android 15 and detected the mention of “bubbles”, an element which is nothing new in itself, since since 2012, Facebook has offered “Chat Heads” in the form of bubbles allowing you to place your conversations above any application. Android later implemented this format at the system level, but it only works with a limited number of apps and is actually rarely used. This is what Google would like to remedy by allowing any app to open in the form of a bubble, which allows a floating window to be deployed if necessary, regardless of the app running on the device. . According to the elements detected by Mishaal Rahman, it will become possible to activate a Bubble via a long press on the icon of any application, via an option offered in the context menu which then opens. Enough to relaunch this option, making it easier for the user to access multitasking.
A “Do not disturb” mode to personalize
The same media also understands that Android 16 will offer an improved version of Do Not Disturb mode, useful for those who want to stay focused without being interrupted by their notifications. Google should add more customizable “Priority” modes, to which the user could add a name, an icon and of course a list of authorized applications.
All of this must of course be taken with a grain of salt, as the first Developer Preview of Android 16 is not expected before February 2025, that is to say a year after the DP1 of Android 15; some also believe that its final version would be launched in the summer of 2025. In the meantime, smartphone manufacturers are working to deploy their beta version of Android 15, such as Samsung and Nothing, while its final version is expected on Google Pixels in October.
