Chromebooks are about to get a dedicated app store on ChromeOS: here’s App Mall
The first doubt to resolve when wanting to buy a new computer concerns (without doubt) the choice of operating system. Chrome OS, available on Chromebooks, is ideal for those looking for a light and versatile operating system with the particularity of being able to install applications directly from the Play Store (in addition to Linux and PWA applications). However, this all might be a bit confusing for users. Google, as reported by Chrome Unboxed, has therefore decided to solve the problem by creating a specific application store for ChromeOS: App Mall. App Mall promises to bring all Chromebook apps and games together in one place, greatly simplifying both search and installation. App Mall has not yet been released in stable version, but it is already available in preview in the Canary channel of ChromeOS 126. To try it, simply enable the chrome://flags/#cros-mall flag then click on the button new icon added to the application launcher.

As you can see from the preview video, the interface is very neat and displays the sections on the left: Search, Home, Applications and Games. Each app page provides both images and a full description of the app in question. Some apps specifically let you choose download paths, not limited to the Play Store. The real turning point lies in the installation procedure for Web apps and PWAs: the only step to download them from now on is to click on the dedicated popup. App Mall is currently marked as “Experience”, so if you’re a Chromebook user, stay tuned for further updates!
