As part of Press and Media Weeks which take place throughout the month of May, the Professional Federation of Journalists of Quebec (FPJQ) – Mauricie is organizing two activities in Trois-Rivières in the coming days.

On May 15, from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., artificial intelligence (AI) in the world of media will be discussed during a videoconference panel. Journalists Paule Vermot-Desroches and Marie-Claude Paradis-Desfossés will host this virtual conference which aims to explore the impacts and potential of AI in the media environment. Faced with the emergence of these conversational robots, which are developing at great speed, the media must act quickly and look into their supervision.

Dominique Plamondon, director of operations at QUB Radio, Michaël Côté, senior manager of digital information at Noovo Info, and Jean-Sébastien Dessureault, professor at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, will share some thoughts on this issue .

At the crossroads of the worlds of journalism…and improvisation!

On May 23, at the Repère des Mauvaises Langues (127, rue Radisson), the issues of the journalistic world will come to life during a special improvisation match featuring four players from the Mauritius Improvisation League (LIM). From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., LIM players will be asked to improvise on different themes related to journalism selected by the FPJQ Mauricie.

Between each improvisation, journalists from various media will come to talk about the role of information artisans and their reality on the ground. Furthermore, courageous journalists from Mauricie will join LIM improvisers on stage in the second part of the show.

Access to the show is free, but as the number of places is limited at the Repère des Mauvaises Langues, the first come, first served formula will prevail. Doors will open from 6:30 p.m.

Circulate information

This year, Press and Media Weeks are taking place under the theme “Spreading information”. These weeks aim to inform the public about the reality of the profession of journalist as well as the many challenges they face in transmitting essential information to the population.

The journalistic environment, particularly regional news, has been greatly weakened in recent months. As local media see their newsrooms shrink and misinformation spreads visibly on social media, the importance of circulating reliable and verified information is greater than ever. This is the message that the FPJQ wishes to send as part of Press and Media Weeks.
