Would Monteverdi have liked jazz? Did this 17th century Italian composere century, having lived at the crossroads of the Renaissance and the Baroque, would have stamped his feet and snapped his fingers in front of a beautiful improv? One might think so, since he himself revolutionized music. Thus, the students of the HEMU jazz sector, with Matthieu Michel on trumpet, chose to revisit his Sestina Lagrime d’amante al sepolcro dell’amata. This work is a cycle of six madrigals (an Italian polyphonic vocal genre) of mourning, one of the musician’s hits. This very enjoyable meeting of sound genres takes place on Saturday at La Spirale. It is a foretaste of the International Festival of Sacred Music, which is celebrating its 20the edition this year.
