A new anti-aging remedy is generating a lot of attention. Some call it a revolutionary facial, while others prefer to use the scientific term polynucleotide treatments. It is actually salmon sperm. Literally.

This treatment has become increasingly popular in Korea but also in Europe since 2015, reports the Guardian. Recently, this unusual technique has seen renewed interest after celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian mentioned it. Kim even revealed in her reality TV show that she had been injected with this famous salmon sperm, which unleashed Internet users on the networks, eager to know more.

Specifically, this salmon sperm facial, called a polynucleotide treatment, involves the injection of small fragments of DNA and RNA in the form of microneedling, a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny sterile needles for better absorption. Salmon testicles, containing a high concentration of DNA, are the preferred source for the extraction of these polynucleotides, which help stimulate the production of collagen and new skin cells, making the skin thicker, hydrated and healthy.

This sperm would be all the more useful as it is particularly well tolerated by the body, because salmon nucleotides are relatively similar to those of humans. In short, it would be the perfect anti-aging treatment.

Does it work, doctor?

Okay, sorry, but we haven’t tested it for you. On the other hand, a study published in 2024 gives us a small indication of the effectiveness of this treatment, or rather of the use of polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine. As a result, sometimes it works, sometimes not.
