Apple is working on a chip that can change the future of AI

Clearly, Apple doesn’t joke with AI. It is already estimated that the Cupertino company is working on its own ChatGPT-style language model, and on various features that could enrich iOS 18. But before the Tech giant tells us more, the Wall Street Journal has just made new revelations.

The force of the war

According to our colleagues, the Apple brand is in fact working on a new chip which is specially designed to power AI processing data centers. These technologies do not fall from the sky and require enormous computing power (and human work to verify its operation and sort certain data).

According to the American newspaper, this innovation could provide the company with “a key advantage in the AI arms race”. According to their internal sources, this project is called ACDC. Nothing to do with music however, since it is the acronym for Apple Chips in Data Center.

It is assumed that this technology is intended for internal use, although we do not have information on this. In any case, Apple would free itself from Nvidia which outrageously dominates this market with its H100 GPU on which ChatGPT feeds. Or even Blackwell, his latest arrival.

According to UBS, Alphabet (Google), Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon will spend $205 billion on microchip purchases alone this year. Of this total, a large part should go to Jensen Huang’s firm.

We will wait for the WWDC keynote which will be held on June 10 to find out more. Unless Apple decides to communicate about AI during this afternoon’s event.
