Along with Certina, Mido is the other major Swatch Group brand to follow at the moment. For what ? Quite simply because their designs, the quality of the products and components and their price positioning is quite unique on the market.
This is the case, once again, with this new Ocean Star 200C Carbon. This watch is a limited edition of 888 pieces worldwide. This will make few pieces per retailer! What sets it apart, beyond its very contemporary and successful look? High-tech components and an efficient caliber.
Indeed, this Ocean Star 200C has a 42.5 mm case, water-resistant to 200 meters, made of carbon fiber composite – just like its dial. Which gives it this marbled appearance and which makes, in a certain way, each watch unique.
The matte anthracite carbon fiber composite dial maintains excellent readability (this is essential for a diver) both during the day and in the dark. On this marbled background, a triangle located at 12 o’clock and generous round indexes provide perfect readability; all reinforced by touches of orange (on the diamond-cut minute hand and on the rotating ceramic bezel). Orange is also “the” Mido color!
Still on the unidirectional rotating bezel, a luminescent white dot marks the start of the graduation, characteristic of a watch intended to measure diving times. The first 15 minutes are then marked in orange. The day and date are displayed in a window with a black background at 3 o’clock. A sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects everything.
The body of the Ocean Star 200C Carbon combines the lightness and strength of carbon fiber composite with a robust steel base. The screwed back in black PVD steel features the engraved starfish which recalls Mido’s historical expertise in diving. Note the presence, also, of an engraving “one of 888” on the bottom.
This sports car features the Caliber 80 COSC (Official Swiss Chronometer Control) automatic mechanical 4Hz. Finely decorated with blued screws, it offers a very comfortable power reserve of up to 80 hours (largely weekend proof therefore), as well as the advantages of a silicon hairspring, a non-magnetic material particularly resistant to shocks.
