The next iPhone SE will say goodbye to the Home button but, above all, will support Apple Intelligence.
As journalist Mark Gurman reports on Bloomberg, Apple could present the new iPhone SE in early 2025, at the same time as a new iPad Air. According to what has been reported, the aesthetic appearance of the next cheap iPhone will resemble that of the iPhone 14: Apple will therefore say goodbye to the Home button with TouchID, to finally move on to facial recognition via Face ID also on the iPhone SE. There are not many other details on the technical specifications, but among the highlights of the device there should be support for Apple Intelligence , and this would be a truly exceptional innovation. Not only because it would likely require a very advanced chip (at least comparable to that of the iPhone 15 Pro) and 8GB of RAM, but also because it would highlight just how popular AI-based features will be. heart of the user experience. for Apple.

Apple is late
Although Apple Intelligence is not yet available in Belgium (nor in any country in the European Union), a good part of the presentations at WWDC in June and at the iPhone 16 event in September concerned Apple’s AI features, which are one of the highlights of iOS 18. Even if not all the functions presented had exactly that wow effect: many of them, in fact, had already been spotted on Android smartphones. Apple started late with AI, but doesn’t want to be caught off guard. Samsung was the first company to introduce Galaxy AI on its devices, and now AI-based features are spreading like wildfire even on new mid-range Android devices. By spending a few hundred euros, you have “advanced” functions like the magic eraser, writing assistance tools, etc.

Of course, not everything works very well, not everything works in French, but the marketing machine is powerful and Apple cannot afford to be left behind. For this reason, the fact that Apple Intelligence only works with iPhone 15 Pro and above may be a “problem”, at least in terms of image. That a mediocre Android device is perceived as “more magical” (forgive the terms, we understand each other) than an iPhone is not a possible scenario for Apple. For this reason, bringing AI to the “cheap” iPhone is a great idea. It’s likely that Apple Intelligence support will increase the price of the iPhone SE (it now starts at €549), but that’s okay: it doesn’t matter if it still only has one device photo (which will still film well), the 60 Hz display and perhaps also the notch and not the Dynamic Island. The real revolution will be Apple Intelligence: and if not everyone can afford to spend a thousand euros for an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 16, a new iPhone SE at a more affordable cost could be the solution.
