The summary maps benefit from a significant update. It’s very simple, we are almost dealing with a new functionality. In total, four new categories are arriving: Purchases, Events, Travel and Bills.
Summary maps have been available for several years now, but it is clear that they are quite basic in terms of the information presented and that they lack functionality. Indeed, we find some information placed one below the other, with no real possibilities for interaction (except adding to the calendar).
But Gmail intends to remedy this with a significant new update. It’s quite simple, this update transforms the summary cards.
Soon, summary cards will be divided into 4 distinct categories: Purchases, Events, Travel and Bills. These 4 categories will be grouped together in the “Coming soon” section. The summary cards for each of these categories will therefore summarize important information through a new, much clearer layout.
In addition, new buttons are appearing. Thus, it will be possible to invite friends to an event, view purchased tickets or even obtain directions. In the case of an online order for an item, it will be possible to track it until the time of delivery.
Another example: it will be possible to check-in for your flight and manage the reservation. Last example with a button that allows us to remember to make a payment on a certain date.
Important clarification: the summary maps will be updated in real time. It will therefore no longer be necessary to rummage through your mailbox to gather various scattered pieces of information.
Google announced the rollout of Purchase Summary Cards today. Regarding the Events, Travel and Invoices categories, as well as the “Coming soon” tab, you will still have to wait a few weeks.
The entire update will therefore soon be deployed in the Android and iOS versions of Gmail.
