UK Businesses Losing Interest in AI: Latest Report Bursts Artificial Intelligence Bubble

Everyone seems obsessed with artificial intelligence. At least, that’s the impression one might get when looking at business investments over the past two years. However, a new report reveals that UK businesses continue to prioritize recruiting workers with basic technical skills.

According to a study by Indeed, only 2.6% of UK job postings mention AI skillswhile basic skills like proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT experience are much more in demand.

According to the report, the skills most sought after by English companies are general computer skills (10%), Microsoft Office (6%) and Microsoft Excel (5%). Additionally, demand for these core IT skills has remained relatively stable over the past five years, whether in the UK or other markets such as the US.

More basic skills, less AI

In addition to technology skills, Indeed also found that UK employers place a high value on human skills such as communication (30%), leadership (9%) and organization (7%).

Indeed’s study on the current state of the UK labor market addresses the current fear that artificial intelligence will replace human workers. Analysis of more than 2,800 job skills found that it is “very unlikely” or “unlikely” that two-thirds (68.7%) will be replaced by generative AI.

“While artificial intelligence may eventually require widespread upskilling within the workforce to adopt advanced technologies, there remains a more pressing concern around filling gaps in basic digital skills , to enable everyone to fully engage in work in the digital age,” the report explains.

The current job market shows that companies are not yet aligned with this visionas employers continue to look for fundamental technology and people skills.
