The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the subject of wild rumors for two weeks, so much so that many agree that its announcement would be imminent. After leaks on its design, its release date or even the chip of the next Nintendo console, a new leak could well spice up the news around the Switch 2 a little more.

Nintendo Switch 2: an intriguing new rumor

Reddit is a particularly fertile ground for rumors of all kinds, but you already knew that. The problem is that these rumors spread at lightning speed and it then quickly becomes difficult to distinguish the true from the false.

For example, we have the case today ofa forumer responding to the name of Adjacent-Adjunct who claims to have seen the shell of a Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the 3D model of the console. We’re not going to lie to you: we remained quite skeptical of these allegations which came out of nowhere. We know nothing about the person behind this pseudonym or the context in which they actually saw the prototype of the Nintendo console.

However, this person mentions wheel buttons, which would replace the Joy-Con triggers, and that is not without reminding us a patent that Nintendo would have filed around ten years ago…

A patent filed in 2015 by Nintendo resurfaces

The patent in question was filed by Nintendo in September 2015almost 10 years ago. Published on Free Patents Online, and highlights the presence of shoulder buttons functioning as scroll wheels. This new type of button could be used in the traditional way with a single press, while still allowing the incorporation of scrolling functions.

Obviously, Nintendo had remained silent on this subject when his patent was mentioned in the press at the time, and we have never heard of it since…

The filing of a patent does not systematically give rise to the realization of the plans filed, proof of this since the Nintendo Switch 1 does not actually have dials located on its rear triggers. On the other hand nothing prevents Nintendo from offering them on its next Switch 2… or not
