Microsoft has a new tool for remotely accessing a PC on any device, whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or another computer: the Windows app. Yes, like the name of the operating system!
It has long been possible to display a remote PC on another device, with the help of Remote Desktop software, a classic in any software center. Microsoft has nevertheless decided to shake up habits with new software which replaces this well-known solution.
The Windows application is also Windows compatible
After several months of beta testing, the Windows app is now available on all platforms: iOS, iPadOS and macOS, Android, and even… Windows. Yes, you can use the Windows app in Windows, and why not. For those who do not have the possibility to install applications on their PC (which can happen in companies), there is also a web version accessible in a browser.
The Windows app allows you to manage multiple PC instances, and you can also connect to Windows in the cloud. Microsoft is reserving this new feature for users with a Microsoft business or education account; the general public will continue to use the Remote Desktop software. The publisher has not announced anything about opening the Windows app to ordinary users.
The decoupling between Windows and hardware continues and is therefore amplified with this new feature. And Microsoft intends to completely cut the cord one day, thanks to Windows 365 which is a true PC in the cloud.
