Why Netflix Might Stop Working on Many iPhones

-

Netflix has warned users that they need to upgrade to iOS 17 to continue using the app on their device. But not all iPhones are compatible.

If your iPhone is running iOS 16, you may soon have trouble using Netflix. As reported by the American site 9to5mac, the streaming platform has sent a notification to affected users, warning them that it will soon no longer support this version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

“We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, update to iOS 17 or later,” reads the alert displayed on iPhones running iOS 16. iPads running iPad0S 16 are also affected by this change.

Multiple iPhones and iPads affected

While some users will be able to update their devices and still use Netflix, others will be in a bind. To upgrade to iOS 17, you need to have an iPhone XR or later. In other words, owners of an iPhone 8, 8 Plus, iPhone X (and all earlier models) will soon no longer be able to update the Netflix app on their smartphone, unless they buy a new iPhone.

On the Apple tablet side, the iPad 5 and the first generation of the iPad Pro are stuck on iOS 16. Since Netflix has not given an official date for the end of support for iOS 16, owners of these iPhones and iPads can still use the application for the time being.

Once Netflix’s decision is in effect, not being able to update Netflix on your iPhone could eventually prevent you from using the app properly. According to the streaming platform’s official website, not having the latest version of the app can result in error messages appearing when you launch it.
