Two Swiss mountaineers met a tragic fate when they left the Weismiess hut in Saas-Grund on Wednesday. They had planned to reach the Lagginhorn via the south ridge, but the 55 and 54-year-old men never returned from their excursion.

Without news from them, third parties alerted the emergency services. The Valais cantonal police indicated that “the crew of the Air Zermatt helicopter was able to locate two unconscious people on the southwest side of the Lagginhorn.”

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to understand the circumstances of their fall of approximately 50 meters.
