The well-known climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested during a protest in Brussels.

Greta Thunberg was arrested at a climate demonstration in Brussels. The Swedish activist took part in a sit-in with around 150 other activists on Saturday afternoon. The police then took her away.

According to a spokesperson for the United for Climate Justice campaign, over 100 people were arrested during the protest. They were released again in the evening. Protesters called for an end to fossil fuel subsidies.

Background to the demonstration

Thunberg wore a Palestinian scarf at the demonstration. Critics accuse her of adopting pro-Palestinian positions that are too one-sided, especially since the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The activist has expressed her solidarity with the Palestinians on several occasions.

Greta Thunberg is known for her “Fridays for Future” movement. She is committed to climate protection worldwide. She also wanted to once again set an example in Brussels.
