”Sammy emphasized that you don’t have to be perfect to do something. With this philosophy he taught us that, indeed, everyone can do great things and he demonstrated it with his life, characterized by great commitment. A life that he lived intensely and to the fullest, showing us how limits are often left to us to see or, even worse, to create. And he, despite suffering from a very serious and very rare pathology, did not set himself any limits; he always found a way to confirm that the real incurable thing was his enthusiasm. Now that he is gone we will miss him.”
With these words the president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, remembers Sammy Basso, the twenty-eight-year-old biologist, suffering from Progeria, who passed away last night.
“He lived intensely, always with enthusiasm, generosity and future vision as demonstrated by the association he founded for the study of Progeria – continues the Governor -. He has never stopped participating in the life of our society, making a concrete contribution to study and research, wanting to know the world with a great desire to live. Today is a day of great sorrow for the passing of a great Venetian and a true friend. I embrace his family, his friends and all those who have admired him over the years and will not forget him. Sammy will not be forgotten and the Region will support initiatives that will remember him as he deserves.”
