After a seven-year absence from the recording world, the group Indochine is making its big comeback with “Babel Babel”, its 14th studio album in 40 years of career.

An album committed to Indochina

“It’s an album of struggle and full of hope”says Nicola Sirkis, the charismatic leader of Indochine, in an exclusive interview with Le Parisien. With “Babel Babel“, the group does not hesitate to tackle hot topics, from the war in Ukraine to feminist movements and criticism of populism.

The first single, “The Song of the Swans”sets the tone. Inspired by Iranian women, it calls for resistance and hope.Be strong, be even stronger”sings Nicola Sirkis.

A cleverly orchestrated return for the cult group

To mark its big comeback, Indochine, which was not invited to the Olympics, set up a real media treasure hunt. For months, the group dropped clues, piquing the curiosity of fans and the media. The highlight of this campaign was a private concert organized in the greatest secrecy, which 300 lucky people were able to attend.

“We have the luxury of being able to do it. Because the public is always there,” explains Nicola Sirkis

An ambitious double album for Indochine

With its 17 tracks and almost 90 minutes of music, “Babel Babel” positions itself against the current trends in the music industry. “It’s the opposite of everything that should be done in today’s music industry: a double album of 17 tracks, long songs, choruses that don’t come right away.”explains Nicola Sirkis.

Children in the spotlight

On the set of DailyNicola Sirkis explained the presence of small backing singers like no other on the album.

In fact, all the children of the members of the Indochine group, as well as Lou, the daughter of Stéphane Sirkis, the brother of Nicola Sirkis, who died in 1999.

Nicola Sirkis explains: “I had this idea one evening. We invited all our children, we all have a lot of children, there are five of us. I have three.”

He adds: “We had the idea that they sing the chorus of “Swan Song” and then another song called “Road to the Future”.”

Amused, he explains: “They’re still teenagers, we thought they’re going to throw us out. And then finally they did. Gropingly. And they got really involved. It’s super cute.”

And like gaga parents, Nicola Sirkis and his colleagues couldn’t help but take out their cell phones to immortalize this lovely moment.

“It was super moving. I don’t understand why I didn’t think of it sooner! But this is good. There are all age groups. It’s cool,” concludes the singer.
