Government amendment rejected by the Senate, reprieve for the Sports budget

The senators rejected, Thursday evening in plenary session, the government’s amendment introducing a new cut of €34.3 million in sports credits. The text, tabled the same afternoon, sparked a real revolt for a few hours from all stakeholders, denouncing a further reduction in the Sports budget, falling from €909 million in 2024 to €607 million with this amendment. A real challenge for the new Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life Marie Barsacq who has made defense of the budget one of her priorities in order to preserve the legacy of the Games.
