The English Football Federation has invited the Senegal national team to play a friendly match on June 10, according to information reported by Afrik Foot. This meeting could take place at the City Ground in Nottingham, a historic stadium where the Three Lions only played once, more than 100 years ago, in a duel against Wales (2-0 ) in 1909. To date, the Senegalese Football Federation has not yet given an official response to this proposal.
This opposition would mark the second meeting between the two nations. Their first face-to-face dates back to December 4, 2022, during the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar, where the English won 3-0 thanks to the achievements of Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.
Despite losing its African champion title to Ivory Coast, Senegal remains a leading figure in African football. Ranked 17th by FIFA, the Teranga Lions team is attracting keen international interest. For England, currently 4th in the FIFA rankings and Euro 2024 finalists in Germany, this match would represent a valuable opportunity to conclude the season against a competitive opponent.
For the Three Lions, this friendly match would come three days after a confrontation against Andorra in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The final decision now depends on the Senegalese Federation, led by Augustin Senghor.
