Anderlecht-Bruges: a one-sided topper (0-3)

Anderlecht and Bruges had to rely on their bench depth. Both squads had a few absentees. David Hubert’s men will have to do without Jan Vertonghen, injured following a relapse, and Zanka, about to leave. Augustinsson and N’Ndiaye, who share the left flank in defense, are not available.

To remedy his absences, David Hubert changed his system (a 3-4-3) and trusted the young people. Lapage (20 years old) starts in defense alongside Dendoncker and Simic. The right flank was also reworked. Maamar was lined up on the right flank, a big first for the 19-year-old full-back who still has no first team experience. It was a baptism of fire for the new kid, and it’s hard to blame him for not having responded.

On the Bruges side, the squad was much more complete, Nick Hayen could, for his part, replace his executives with experienced players: De Cuyper played in place of Seys and Sabbe instead of Siquet. For the rest, it was the usual armada, the one which makes the Club the best attack in the championship.

Realistic people of Bruges

There were few actions at the start of the meeting. The first dangerous action came from Dreyer’s feet, but he had completely missed his shot. It was without danger for Mignolet. But from the tenth minute, the locals were surprised. Jutgla came to crucify the Mauves on a beautiful ball from Talbi (0-1).

If Anderlecht was content to wait for its opponent of the day to go on a counter-attack, this goal had changed the strategy in place somewhat. David Hubert’s men became more enterprising after the tenth minute.

On a corner taken in the second zone by Dreyer, Leander Dendoncker, strangely alone, missed the target with a powerful header. Two minutes later, well shifted to the right side, Dreyer went to play his duel against Mignolet. The Bruges goalkeeper won his duel, but the ball returned to Dolberg’s feet. The Brussels striker shot, but saw his try cleared in front of the line by Ordonez. After a little solo on the left flank, Amuzu entered the game and tried his luck from afar. His floating shot surprised Simon Mignolet, who initially released the ball, before recovering it.

The Mauves came back well in the match, but that was not enough. A goal from Amuzu, scored in an offside position, was even cancelled. A hard blow for the locals. The match was balanced, but the defending champions were much more decisive. On a free kick from De Cuyper, a game of billiards took place in the rectangle. Sardella involuntarily put the ball at the feet of Jutglawho only had to shoot Coosemans. 0-2 for Club Brugge!

Ineffective Anderlecht residents

At the break, Amuzu and Dolberg were out injured. Hubert had moved back to four behind, seeing that his strategy was not working. Invisible in this first period, Sardella had found color thanks to the usual system. Generally speaking, the Anderlecht players returned to the pitch with more enthusiasm… for five minutes.

If the Mauves had their chances in this second half, it was the people of Bruges who led the dance. From a corner from Tzolis, the ball passed through the entire Anderlecht defense before arriving in the second zone, where there was Nilsson. The Swedish giant easily won his duel against Leoni and headed the ball into the back of the net (0-3).

This match, although balanced in the game, ended with a score of 0-3. Since the defeat against Genk, Anderlecht have struggled to bounce back. Two important defeats, against potential opponents in Play-off 1. Anderlecht drops to fifth place, while Bruges are getting dangerously close to the leader.

Bruges passes three without forcing Anderlecht and wins the Topper (0-3)

While a reaction was expected in the second half from the people of Brussels, this was not really the case. The opportunities have become far too rare to hope for anything in this Topper. Nilsson came to endorse the purple and white hopes at the end of the match. Despite opportunities in the first half, Anderlecht never really worried Simon Mignolet.

For the people of Brussels, they will have to react next week in Kortrijk to stop the series of three defeats in a row in the league. They also see the Union move ahead of them in the standings.

Bruges, for their part, are one point behind leader Genk, whom they will face twice in the Belgian Cup. Next week, they will receive the red lantern, the Beerschot, to continue their series of invincibility in the championship.
