At the end of an insipid match, the reigning champions used their experience of big matches to bring down the South African franchise (8-20). But without gleaning the bonus point, which could be (very) expensive.
A gloomy first in South Africa for Toulouse. In the supposed shock at the top of this third day of the Champions Cup, Stade Toulousain slowly won this Saturday on the pitch of the Durban Sharks (8-20), for the first match in its history on the grounds of the world champion nation. If this match was very disappointing in terms of play and intensity, Antoine Dupont and the reigning champions, without shining, made their experience of major meetings speak against a completely amorphous and approximate South African franchise.
Toulouse under threat from UBB
Ugo Mola’s players scored two tries by the untenable Emmanuel Meafou (9th), elected man of the match, and Blair Kinghorn (42nd), after a superb chistera from Thomas Ramos, author of a (very) great score. With these two new achievements, the Red and Black have accumulated the impressive total of 21 attempts flattened in just three matches this season in the competition.
For their part, totally apathetic, the Sharks were still able to react late by planting a try on a ride from Jurenzo Julius (68th). The only downside is that Toulouse – after two bonus victories against Ulster and Exeter – did not win the offensive bonus point which could be expensive, in the end, to be able to host the final phase matches at home. Next Sunday, the Haut-Garonnais will welcome the English from Leicester during the 4th and final day of the Champions Cup.
