France achieves an incredible hat-trick during the Oberhof sprint. Quentin Fillon Maillet pockets the victory ahead of Fabien Claude and Emilien Jacquelin. A first for the Blues since the last race of Martin Fourcade’s career.
Two boards on your feet, two sticks in your hands, a rifle on your back and a lot of emotions. France is at home in the Thuringian Forest, in Oberhof. 24 hours after Paula Botet’s surprise success, the Blues achieved an incredible hat-trick this Friday during the sprint. Quentin Fillon Maillet won ahead of Fabien Claude and Emilien Jacquelin for an entirely blue-white-red podium. An idyllic start to the year for Simon Fourcade’s men.

A Blue hat-trick five years later
Conditions are much milder than Thursday. No rain or wind, just gray skies that aren’t very threatening. The shooting range has become as simple as child’s play, at least for the Blues. No Norwegian achieved 10 out of 10 this Friday, hence their absence on the podium. You had to refuel to win, the proof with QFM and Fabien Claude, separated on the line by 15 seconds. Emilien Jacquelin Jacquelin completes the trio being 22 seconds back with a fault. All this is ideal for pursuit.
The last French men’s hat-trick dates back to March 14, 2020. It was the last day of Martin Fourcade’s career. The Catalan won ahead of Quentin Fillon Maillet and Emilien Jacquelin. Five years later, the statistics are updated.
The other members of the French team have nothing to be ashamed of their performance either. Thanks to his 10/10, Emilien Claude ranks 8th in today’s sprint. Eric Perrot is 10th. Antonin Guigonnat made three mistakes and finds himself further down the rankings. He is qualified for the chase but could not expect big things.
