There were few doubts, it is now confirmed: AC Ajaccio supporters are prohibited from attending the match between their club and SC Bastia, at the Armand Cesari stadium, this Friday January 10. A decision set out in two decrees, one emanating from the Haute-Corse prefecture, and the other directly from the Ministry of the Interior.
“Individual or collective travel, by any means, of any person claiming to be a supporter of the Athletic Club Ajaccien or behaving as such is prohibited between the municipalities of the Corse-du-Sud department, on the one hand , and the municipalities of Furiani and Bastia, on the other hand“, is detailed in this second decree, signed by Minister Bruno Retailleau. A measure applied from “Friday January 10, 2025 from zero hour to midnight“.
At the same time, indicates the decree of the Haute-Corse prefecture, the possession, transport and use of all firecrackers, smoke bombs and pyrotechnic devices is prohibited in the territory of the communes of Furiani and Bastia, from 6 a.m. on Friday and until 12 p.m. on Saturday January 11.
At issue in this travel ban: “the repeated nature of events likely to seriously disturb public order during football matches between supporters of the SC Bastia team and the AC Ajaccio team“, recalls the departmental prefecture. Latest example in a long list to date: the first leg between the two Corsican clubs, last October 26, at the Michel Moretti stadium.
“When the SC Bastia bus arrived, the ultra supporters of AC Ajaccio had an aggressive attitude and threw plastic cups at the bus, requiring the intervention of the CRS“, recalls the prefecture. Although banned from traveling, Bastia supporters were present in the stadium, “and declared their status as supporters, thus provoking a brawl in the sports venue, leading to the intervention of the police and the suspension of the match..
Postponed to December 3 and played behind closed doors, the meeting was also marked by “high tensions [opposant] the delegations of the two clubs“, underlines the decree.
Taking into account this “violent rivalry” existing between the two teams, the “major risks of disturbances to public order“that it is likely to generate… But also the principle of reciprocity – Bastia supporters being prohibited from traveling on the outward journey – which, if it was not respected, “would be a factor in increasing tensions“, this ban on the movement of aceist supporters appears”essential to avoid risks to the safety of people and property“, concludes the prefectural decree.
