when Thierry Henry scored on his return to Arsenal

Thirteen years ago to the day, Thierry Henry made his return to the Gunners…by giving his team victory against Leeds United in the FA Cup.

A goal that has become legendary. Thirteen years ago to the day, on January 9, 2012, Thierry Henry made his comeback – as a freelancer, on loan from the New York Red Bulls – with Arsenal FC, during the 3e FA Cup round against Leeds United FC. After starting the match on the substitutes’ bench, the 34-year-old French center forward entered the field in place of Marouane Chamakh in the 68the minute of play, to the cheers of the public. Ten minutes later – only! –, perfectly served by Alexandre Song in space in the penalty area, the 1998 world champion controlled the ball before doing his “special”, a small flat with his right foot (open) to find the small opposite net.

The greatest player in the history of the Gunners then let his joy burst forth, throwing himself into the arms of his coach Arsène Wenger then hitting his chest several times. His goal ultimately allowed the London team to win and therefore qualify for the rest of the competition. A return that no one will soon forget.
