Vanhaezebrouck predicts a catastrophic scenario for Genk

On the ground of Club Brugge, KRC Genk missed an excellent opportunity. Instead of bombarding himself like the title favorite par excellence, the proud leader saw his first pursuer approach to within one point. It’s not a disaster in itself, even if in the Cegeka Arena, we gradually seem to look back with fear.

Previously, almost everyone agreed that the national champion had the strongest core in the country. However, under new coach Thorsten Fink, Genk have made a good impression so far. With often scintillating football, the Limburgers barely lost eight points until the 13th day.

Genk losing momentum

But since then, Fink’s troops, who unlike the competition are not active on three fronts, have only scored seven goals in 15 days. Even though there is no man overboard yet, things threaten to get worse.

“Genk quietly aspires to 2025,” comments Ludo Vandewalle in Het Nieuwsblad. Hein Vanhaezebrouck also highlights the situation of his former employer who, according to him, had to recognize on Sunday the superiority of the reigning national champion in all areas.

Thus, Zakaria El Ouahdi and Jarne Steuckers drowned on their side against Maxim De Cuyper and Christos Tzolis.

The holders evacuate

According to Vanhaezebrouck, it is especially the latter who missed his subject. For his part, the midfielder failed to seize that of Bruges, while Noah Adedeji-Sternberg found himself in the back pocket of Joaquin Seys. Only Matte Smets and Tolu Arokodare, who missed a penalty, managed to create an illusion.

“The problem is that some players no longer reach the necessary level: Bonsu Baah, Steuckers, Heynen is not yet at the top, Van Crombrugge made a mistake”, lists Vanhaezebrouck.

Even if he does not exclude Genk for the moment, the analyst warns Fink and his men against a disaster scenario.

Busy schedule

“Anderlecht comes to visit, then Genk must go to Antwerp: for the same reason, they are only third at the New Year and risk paying the price until 2025. We must react now,” says he mentions the heavy program which now awaits the leader of the ranking. Curious to see if the message will get through.
