Descent of Beaver Creek: Gut-Behrami 3rd, victory for Hütter

First speed race and first podium of the season for Lara Gut-Behrami. The Ticino was ultimately only beaten by Cornelia Hütter, crowned best downhiller last season, and Sofia Goggia.

Winner in 2013, “LGB” did not go for her 46th World Cup victory, but she scored her 91st podium. The skier from Comano was very solid throughout the course, but she gave up more than 0.40 seconds to Hütter in the fourth sector on a very difficult slope.

After having raced down the Raptor track twice in 2013 and 2015 during the World Championships, the ladies changed locations for this American stage. They were indeed entitled to the Birds of Prey, the men’s playground since 1997 and created by Bernhard Russi for the World Championships in Vail in 1999.

It was therefore clear that victory would be between the great ladies of the discipline, a duel between Cornelia Hütter, Sofia Goggia and Lara Gut-Behrami. A very good slider, the Austrian was able to make the difference to get her 7th victory in the World Cup, the 3rd in downhill.

Annoyed by a circulating virus, Michelle Gisin had a very good race after disappointing technical tests. The Obwalden finished in 7th place at 0”72. In 12th place, we find Priska Ming-Nufer.

Back after her serious left knee injury, Corinne Suter probably did not have huge ambitions, but just the desire to regain confidence on a demanding track. The Schwyzoise took 17th place at 1”77.

Joana Hählen, for her part, did not finish her race. Fortunately, the Bernese who no longer has cruciate ligaments was not injured.
