the Transat Jacques-Vabre changes its name and joins forces with Café-L’Or

31 years after its creation, the double-handed transatlantic race announced its change of name this Thursday.

The double-handed transatlantic race Transat Jacques-Vabre will change its name to be called Transat Café-L’Or, the organizers of the race announced on Friday in (), from where the race has started every two years since 1993.

«When you manage a business, you have to evolve and adapt in the same way that skippers and the sailing world do.», Explained during a press conference Vincent Prolongeau, president of the JDE group which owns the two brands. “Jacques Vabre has certainly taken certain turns less well than L’Or, born 30 years ago like the race and today leaders of coffee brands in France“, he said.

Next departure in October 2025

According to Mr. Prolongeau, this development “confirms and perpetuates the commitment» from JDE France with the sporting event and the company does not wish «change nothing» else. “It is also to give (the race) the chance to have even greater influence.“, he said.

The departure of the next edition will take place on October 26, 2025 from Le Havre. Fort-de-France, in , will host the arrival. As in 2023, it will bring together four different classes of sailboats (Ultim, Imoca, Class40 and Ocean Fifty).

For its sixteenth edition, the transatlantic brought together 95 sailboats and several hundred thousand people in the village of Le Havre. It is one of the most famous offshore races along with the Vendée Globe, the Route du Rhum and the Solitaire du Figaro Paprec.
