Marcel Hirscher tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee during giant training on Monday in Reiteralm, Austria. His season and his return to competition were abruptly interrupted.
The Austrian, who now competes for the Netherlands, confirmed his injury on Tuesday by posting a video of the incident on Instagram. The 35-year-old skier slipped during a right turn. He did not fall but immediately grabbed his left knee.

“The last race of the season. What remains is the love of skiing“, wrote Hirscher on the social network. In a statement published by his team, he added: “The cruciate ligament is gone, the project is finished”. The text specifies that the man with 67 World Cup victories quickly underwent successful surgery.
Hirscher made his return to the World Cup in recent weeks, four years after announcing his retirement.
