After a quiet evening on Friday, we were treated to a huge day of hockey yesterday, with 15 games scheduled in the National Hockey League.
30 of the 32 NHL teams were in action, giving us plenty of highlights.
So here’s what caught the attention.
1. Jonathan Drouin scores his first two goals of the season
After missing a good part of the season so far due to injury, Jonathan Drouin has returned to action for a few games.
Moreover, yesterday he played his fifth match of the season, and he took the opportunity to score his first two goals of the season, both on passes from Cale Makar.
Drouin therefore tied the game twice in this game against the Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, which ultimately allowed the Avalanche to win 7-4.
Makar was smoking hot once again in this game, and he became the second fastest defenseman to reach the 100-game mark with more than one point in his career. He did it in 336 games, with only Bobby Orr ahead of him.
2. 5th straight loss for the Ottawa Senators
Once again this season, the reconstruction does not seem to be complete in Ottawa, while many said loud and clear that this was their year, and that they would finally be back in the playoffs.
It’s the same story every year, and personally, I don’t understand how so many people believe in this team.
After a respectable start to the season, the Senators had a horrible month in November, with only three wins in 11 games.
They currently have five losses in a row with yesterday’s 4-3 defeat against the Vancouver Canucks in regulation time.
In short, nothing is going well for the Senators, who only have one small point more than the Montreal Canadiens with the same number of games played.
They are in 28th place in the entire NHL, while the CH is in 31st place.
Note that for the Canucks, it was Kiefer Sherwood who scored the winning goal.
He is having an absolutely phenomenal personal season with 12 points, including six goals in 19 games.
3. Matvei Michkov gives the Flyers another victory in overtime
While David Reinbacher is rehabbing, Matvei Michkov is dominating in the NHL, as he leads the charge for the Philadelphia Flyers.
The 19-year-old Russian winger is really developing a clutch side since his arrival in the NHL, and he proved it again last night.
He scored the winning goal in overtime to give the Flyers a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
It’s his second career overtime goal, and his 7th goal of the season (16 points) in 19 games.
However, he is not a savior, if we trust the words of John Tortorella.
4. The Oilers have fun against the Rangers
We were treated to a very big game last night between two very entertaining teams to watch, as the New York Rangers visited the Oilers in Edmonton.
The Oilers are slowly recovering after a poor start to the season, and last night, they really put out a huge performance.
They won 6-2 against Rangers, while the big guns had fun.
A great victory for the Oilers, who are currently in 8th and last place giving access to the playoffs.
5. The Preds overcome the NHL leaders
Nashville is very disappointing this season, when we really expected an excellent season after all the acquisitions this summer.
It just seems like things aren’t working for the Predators.
However, that doesn’t stop them from still believing in it and putting out huge performances like last night, when they beat the NHL leaders, the Winnipeg Jets, 4 to 1.
The Jets are having a completely opposite start to the season from the Preds, when everything fits perfectly, but they still escaped yesterday in Nashville.
