Recruited for 20 million euros by PSG from Sao Paulo a year ago, Lucas Beraldo played a lot, without ever convincing. Luis Enrique's hesitations about his position do not help.
Last January, Paris Saint-Germain did not hesitate to send 20 million euros to recruit Lucas Beraldo, a young 20-year-old central defender from Sao Paulo. Great hope of Brazilian football according to the management of PSG, Lucas Beraldo very quickly played matches in the French capital, without really having time to adapt. On the contrary, Luis Enrique used him a lot from his first weeks at PSG, in particular to compensate for the injury absences of Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes. Often used in central defense last year in his first matches played, Lucas Beraldo then helped out as a left back and since then, the Brazilian has moved from one position to another… without really convincing anywhere.
Lucas Beraldo in difficulty, Luis Enrique accused
A difficult adaptation for which Luis Enrique is partly responsible according to L'Equipe. Questioned by the national daily, Ricardo, former PSG defender, nevertheless remains convinced that sooner or later, Lucas Beraldo will impose himself in the capital. “He arrived very early, he is paying the price today but he remains a very, very strong player technically. I remain convinced that it is a good choice by the club. It's a rare profile with this ball exit quality. This sense of duel will take longer. He will continue to grow with playing time, Champions League matches” he explains in the columns of the national daily.
With the upcoming return of Lucas Hernandez and the hoped-for return of Presnel Kimpembe, competition will be increasingly strong for Lucas Beraldo. Will it disappear from the radar or on the contrary improve with such competition? PSG of course hopes that the 20-year-old left-handed defender finally imposes himself, whose talent is not at all questioned internally, neither by Luis Enrique, nor by Luis Campos.
