The Tarbaises easily dominated the Hungarians of Szekszard last night at the Quai de l’Adour. A 33-point success which secures Bigourdanes’ place for the 32nd finals.
After the defeat in Spain, François Gomez’s players had a clear objective: to win against Szekszard’s Hungarians. A success which actually validated the presence of the TGB for the 32nd finals. Next Thursday’s match against the Greeks is almost a foregone conclusion. And the least we can say is that the Bigourdanes did not miss the chance offered to them.
From the start of the match Camille Droguet and her teammates will take the score to never leave their opponent any hope. Nancy Fora’s interception on the Hungarians’ first possession, and the basket on the counterattack following, will set the tone for this meeting. In the wake of its Swiss leader, Tarbes will inflict an 8-0 and four minutes, pushing the Magyars coach to take a time out to try to stop the bleeding.
But you might as well put a bandage on a wooden leg because if the visitors are going to score their first basket, at three points, thanks to Bejedi, they will not succeed in reversing the balance of power.
Premiere night for Miyem
The Tarbaises, on the contrary, relied on their defense to offer themselves easy baskets like Zodia (16-3, 6th). A burst of entry for the Hungarians who will react through Westbeld and Boros (19-11, 9th). An anecdotal reaction since the Tarbaises had the answer to everything, in a very empty Quai de l’Adour for a European meeting. And after Zodia, Fora or Droguet it will be Endy Miyem’s turn to shine. Because this meeting marked the return to the courts of the former French international. Returning from her calf injury, Tarbaise set foot on the Quai floor for the first time in an official competition. And it won’t take long for her to shine since she will score her first points 25 seconds from the end of the first quarter. In the end, the former Asvel player will have played a little more than 10 minutes. A boon for François Gomez who was able to bring his player back to the competition without confronting her with significant opposition.
And if Miyem had a quiet return before returning to the density of the championship, the Tarbaises will move into second place from the start of the second quarter. Under the leadership of Droguet and his first 6 points, the Tarbaises will quickly gain a 20-point lead thanks to a prize-winning basket from Marina Ewodo (34-14, 14th). And despite a few run attempts from the Hungarians, the gap will capped around 20 points until half-time and Musa’s basket (45-25).
Returning from the locker room, the Bigourdanes will increase the gap to have more than 30 points in advance as the last ten minutes approach (69-38). Last ten minutes during which François Gomez will open his bench and offer Evie Poulain a new European meeting on the floor of the Quai de l’Adour to ultimately win (86-53). Considering the meeting and the gap between the two teams, this Wednesday evening, basketball fans will not be impatiently awaiting the arrival of the Greeks next week which should amount to a parody of basketball. But whatever, the Tarbaises will see the 32nd finals. A level where we hope that the opponents will put up some resistance.
