Krepin Diatta is back in the national team Senegal after a harsh suspension occurring after the CAN Côte d’Ivoire 2023. Summoned to the gathering of Lions of the Teranga for the international break November 2024, the player of theAS Monaco looks back on this bad patch.
Pope Thiaw summoned Krepin Diatta for the matches against Burkina Faso and Burundi as part of the 5th and 6th days of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. This call marks the return of the Monegasque full-back who has not played with Senegal since the elimination of the Lions from the Teranga. Indeed, Krepin Diatta was suspended by CAF in February. He was sanctioned for having made comments accusing the CAF for corruption – according to the French press – after Senegal’s defeat against Ivory Coast in the round of 16 of CAN 2023.
The AS Monaco player joined the Teranga Lions gathering at the start of the week and did not fail to speak out about his suspension.
It was a really difficult moment for me because I couldn’t comprehend it. It was really hard. I like wearing this jersey. Everyone knows how important this jersey is to me. But I don’t think this will happen again.
Krépin Diatta and the Lions of Teranga are now preparing for meetings with Burkina Faso and Burundi. Senegal has qualified for the CAN Morocco 2025 after the first 4 days of the playoffs. Now the challenge is to finish as leader of group L.
