Viktorija Golubic (WTA 168) is in the last four of the WTA 250 tournament in Jiujiang, China. The 32-year-old from Zurich beat Arantxa Rus (83) 7-5 4-6 7-6 (7/5) in the quarter-finals.
The 2021 Olympic doubles vice-champion needed 3h25′ to overcome the resistance of the Dutchwoman, seeded No. 6 in the table. She thus reaches the semi-finals of an event of this importance (WTA 250 or more) for the first time since June 2022 – in Birmingham -.
Two match points missed
Winner after Jessica Bouzas Maneiro retired in the second round, Viktorija Golubic nevertheless experienced a huge drop in performance while leading 5-1 in the third set. She missed two match points at 5-4 on her serve before seeing Arantxa Rus recover at 5-5. But she held on to conclude on her third opportunity.
Golubic, who will face the Czech Marie Bouzkova (49) on Saturday for a place in the final, is guaranteed to gain around thirty places in the hierarchy thanks to these three consecutive victories.
