Van der Poel’s end of season really light, the Dutchman makes strong choices

Mathieu van der Poel’s end of season looks pretty light and the Dutchman has made some strong choices. The 2023 world champion hasn’t raced much in recent weeks, only taking part in the road race at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which he failed to win, and a few criteriums. But now we know the end-of-season programme of one of Alpecin-Deceuninck’s leaders and he has decided not to overload himself with races. He will therefore only take part in four races between now and the end of the season but he will still have big goals.

van der Poel does not want to give too much at the end of the season

The Dutchman will therefore take part in four events and the world champion will resume on the occasion of the Renewi Tour this Wednesday (August 28 – September 1). He will then take part in the road race of the European Championships in Limburg (September 15), before continuing with a first participation in the Skoda Tour Luxembourg in order to prepare for the defence of his world title in Zurich (September 29). He knows that he will have a lot to do for the defence of his title, he who wants to achieve the double and keep this rainbow jersey. With only four races between now and the end of the season, van der Poel should however arrive fresh in Zurich at the end of September.
