At a press conference on the eve of the FedEx Cup final, Xander Schauffele did not hide his physical fatigue and rejected out of hand the possibility of creating big tournaments during the off-season.

The PGA Tour ends its season at the end of August. One reason is to avoid facing the NFLthe all-powerful American that begins its season in early September. Of course, there are a series of events in the fall, the FedEx Cup Fallbut most of the top players tend to sit out the vast majority of events in this series.

The last four months of the year are therefore conducive to other options: some play in Europe, others cut off completely. There was a time when the possibility of creating an international series that would bring together the best players through a merger of the PGA Tour and of the LIFE Golf.

No one really knows whether this is a serious proposal, especially since negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund are not really moving forward. On the sidelines of the Tour Championship, Xander Schauffele was asked about a potential initiative of this kind. Right now, that seems like a terrible possibility. I’m in a situation where I’m trying to get to the finish line and play really good golf so I can have fun afterwards.. »

Only one tournament in four months

Xander Schauffele et Scottie Schefflerthe only golfer to beat him in the FedEx Cup heading into the season finale, both hinted at the fatigue setting in as the long season wraps up this week. They’re looking forward to some downtime before the season resumes in January in Hawaii.

« I haven’t really thought about how I’ll feel about trying to start a series overseas in November or December, or even October, explained Xander Schauffele. I will go to Japan to play the Zozo Championship at the end of October. (his mother grew up in Japan, editor’s note). But this is the only event I will participate in during the off-season.”
