Jake Evans wants a five-year contract

Will the Canadian manage to sign Jake Evans? Good question.

Until proven otherwise, the rumor going around is that if Evans is reasonable in his requests, the Canadian is very open to the possibility of keeping him in town for several more years.

And that’s normal: he’s important for the club.

But it’s not because Evans likes Montreal that he can’t start salary negotiations with the CH by asking for a lot. After all, starting high also means that the compromise with the club is more… fair.

And on this subject, Renaud Lavoie addressed the subject this morning on BPM Sports by saying this:

In the case of Jake Evans, I think it’s pretty clear that he’s asking for a five-year contract. – Renaud Lavoie

Because Jake Evans will turn 29 this summer, giving him a five-year contract is a risk. After all, he would be playing his last year of contract at 33 and who knows what he will look like when he gets there.

After all, he may be one shock away from having his life change. #SecureYourFuture

Renaud Lavoie recommends that he go there for three years and I have the feeling that this is what the Canadian will push for. And ultimately, this could end in splitting the pear in two on the terms of a four-year contract.

Four years at $3.4 million (double his current annual salary) for a Joel Armia contract, would that be fair or not?

I really have the feeling that the Canadian will want to settle the matter before the deadline… even if the ranking means that his chances of leaving are slim, regardless of his contract.

But at least it would be one less file on Kent Hughes’ desk.
