The future QMJHL team which will settle in St. John’s next year, after being relocated from Bathurst, revealed its name, logo and colors on Thursday.
It will be the Newfoundland Regiment, whose colors will be burgundy and navy blue, while the logo will feature a caribou and a crown, superimposed on a crest paying homage to the region’s military past.
The crest “recognizes the origin and meaning of our logo, directly linking it to the historical elements of the badge worn by all members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment,” the team writes on its site.
“The crown in our logo symbolizes excellence and honors the proud heritage of duty of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. »
-As for the caribou, it is a “nod to the insignia of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment from the First World War, originally inspired by the Newfoundland Highlanders, a paramilitary cadet corps formed in 1907.”
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan confirmed its move to St. John’s last month. The team will play at Mary Brown’s Center, a 7,000-seat amphitheater formerly known as Mile One Stadium and previously home to the St. John’s Fog Devils, a former QMJHL club that moved to Verdun to become the Junior Montreal. This franchise has since become the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
