New Jersey Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom will be sidelined “for a while,” head coach Sheldon Keefe hinted Wednesday evening.
If this news is certainly negative for the Devils, it could well have a positive impact for the Montreal Canadiens.
This is because Markstrom’s injury, which occurred Wednesday when he collided with Justin Brazeau, risks giving even more work to his reserve Jake Allen.
If the latter plays 40 games this season and the team he plays for reaches the playoffs, the 3rd round pick in 2025 acquired by the Habs in return for his services last year will become a 2nd round selection.
-Allen has played in 15 of the Devils’ 50 games so far this season.
Markstrom was able to leave the ice and reach the locker room under his own power, but he was unable to put weight on his left leg.
